Initial Thoughts on Importance of Biodiversity Locally

Biodiversity can help a community in many ways. In Carroll County specifically having different species helps not just the environment but also the economy. In Carroll County specifically the New river runs through and the trout fish and other aquatic life bring in tourists during the summer. However Biodiversity also helps year round with each animal in the ecosystem playing a role in creating a good stable ecosystem. So, Biodiversity helps not just with the enviornment but also in Carool County specifically with the economy.

Definition of Biodiversity

Rationale of Choice Study Area

The study area I have decided to research throughout this class is Carroll County, Virginia. I chose this area specifically as this is the county that I serve as an agriculture and natural resource extension agent. So, I feel that the knowledge I gain through researching this area can only help expand my knowledge of the county I serve. It will also make it so that what I research and learn is applicable in my everyday life as I work with Carroll residents and farmers almost on a daily basis. Carroll County is located in southwest Virginia so I also think that there will be quite a bit of unique biodiversity in the area to learn more about, with all the river forests and more.
